Italy's Top 10 Tourist Attractions

Sigh when you say, "Ah, Italy!" Because when you go there you will be transported to one of the world's finest cultures and most exquisite artistic communities.

You can go to Italy and travel the countryside if you want to; but you would much rather see those sights everyone talks about. There are at least ten things you need to see, places you need to go, if you are going to Italy.

  • Positano on the Amalfi Coast is extraordinary. Everything on the Amalfi Coast is colorful and awe inspiring. This little tourist attraction wasn't always so neat. Check it out. You won't be sorry.
  • Pompeii, to say the least, is a wonder unto itself. Go see where Nero played his last note while Mount Vesuvius rained its terror down on the poor people of this architecturally astounding village.
  • You can't go to Rome and not see the Colosseum, that would just be wrong! Make your way to this landmark and find out why it was so fascinating to watch the players play and gladiators fight.
  • Absolutely go find out why the Leaning Tower of Pisa, not pizza, leans. Structurally defiant, this tower has withstood the tests of time and nature.
  • The Canals in Venice, how romantic. Take a gondola ride up and down the canals and take a basket of fruit, cheese and olives with you. There is something about these canals that give a person a sense of peace found nowhere else.
  • Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence is not to missed. This basilica has kept watch over the city since 1296. This historic place has to be seen.
  • Relaxation and a bottle of good wine are a part of Italian culture. This being said you would be remiss in your visiting if you didn't go the Lake Como.
  • San Gimignano has 14 towers and was medieval when being medieval wasn't cool. It's in Tuscany, so have a great time while there.
  • Some of the most beautiful places can be found in CInque Terre. Manarola is one such place. Go and enjoy the beauty of it all.
  • Piazza Del Campo in Siena has a great town center tower and horse races. As a lover of horses, you must attend. They are only held twice a year. So, make reservations.

The point is, no matter where you go in Italy there is always something to do, places to see, people to greet and great food to be had. While you are there, you could check out St. Peter's Basilica, but don't bother the Pope. He's always busy these days.
